A budget hotel offering skyline views of the capital has topped out in a prime location in Marylebone, Central London marking an important milestone in the construction of the new building. The 294-bedroom hub by Premier Inn is one of three new hotels being developed by Whitbread, the parent company to Premier Inn, in the Marylebone and Paddington catchment of Central London. When it opens its doors in winter 2023, the hub by Premier Inn on Old Marylebone Road will be Whitbread’s fourteenth hub by Premier Inn hotel to open in London and the tallest at thirteen storeys. Around 40 new jobs are expected to be created at the hotel on opening with recruitment focused in the City of Westminster.
Alex Flach, UK Development Director at Whitbread, said: “The topping out of the Marylebone hub by Premier Inn is a significant moment for our Central London team. It marks years of hard work by many dedicated people to acquire a former office building that once occupied the site, secure planning consent for a hub by Premier Inn, clear the site and construct the 294-room hotel in a respectful way in a heavily constrained location. We still have another year of construction work ahead of us before we are ready to open, but when we do I know that we will have created a wonderful new affordable hotel for our customers to enjoy in a distinctive, vibrant, and connected part of London. I am confident the new Marylebone hub by Premier Inn will be a very popular location for our guests and an excellent addition to our growing network of affordable hotels in Central London.”
The new hub by Premier Inn hotel is located adjacent to the Marylebone Magistrates Court on Old Marylebone Road, NW1. Edgware Road underground station is 200m from the front door of the hotel and Marylebone railway station is 450m away. A publicly accessible ‘Lounge’ space will occupy the ground floor of the hotel. Whitbread anticipates more than 100,000 guests a year will stay at the Marylebone hub by Premier Inn once it is established in its location – with a high proportion of the visitors venturing out to eat, drink and enjoy the local area during their stay, supporting local and established businesses.
Speaking at the topping out ceremony, Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Cabinet Member for City Management and Air Quality at Westminster City Council said: “Living just around the corner from this new site, it’s been great to see this new hotel progress and today reach the exciting Topping Out point in the build. The hotel’s prime location, within easy reach of the West End and all that has to offer, makes it the perfect site to continue to welcome back both tourists and business travellers. Westminster supports one in eight jobs in London and our Westminster Employment Service helps residents into good quality jobs. We have also recently announced our new Westminster Works initiative which aims to drive people into employment within the hospitality industry. We will continue to support Premier Inn with its expansion plans which will help support hundreds of Westminster residents into high-quality employment opportunities and to continue to provide fantastic accommodation options for the millions of visitors who come to our city each year”.
Whitbread currently operates seven popular Premier Inn and hub by Premier Inn hotels within the City of Westminster in Central London. It is continuing to invest with three new Premier Inn and hub by Premier Inn hotels either under construction or in planning in the borough.
