Union Investment takes over 25hours hotel Paper Island (DK)

The 25hours hotel Paper Island in Copenhagen has been completed and transferred to Union Investment’s holdings. The investment and asset manager entered the Scandinavian hotel market by acquiring the planned hotel in 2022. The property is held by the institutional open-ended real estate fund UniInstitutional European Real Estate.

The 25hours hotel officially opened on 27 July this year. It is let to KNSA Hospitality Kopenhagen ApS for 25 years and will be operated under the 25hours lifestyle brand. The 25hours Hotels are part of Ennismore — a joint venture with Accor that was formed in 2021. The 25hours hotel has 128 rooms and includes an Asian restaurant, a café and a Sky Bar on the top floor. There are also three event spaces.

Completion of the 25hours hotel Paper Island sees an attractive new build being added to our portfolio that will deliver stable long-term income. Copenhagen is one of Europe’s top hotel markets, with high occupancy levels and attractive rates. On Paper Island alone, up to 1.9 million visitors a year are expected in the future,” said Andreas Locher, head of Investment Management Operational at Union Investment.

The 25hours hotel Paper Island is located directly on the waterfront in Copenhagen city centre on the island of Christiansholm, which is also known as Paper Island. Huge rolls of paper used to be stored here for Denmark’s daily newspapers. A mixed-use neighbourhood is being created on Paper Island that includes the hotel, 250 apartments, high-quality retail, restaurants and event space and the Water Culture House, which offers water-based experiences.

The hotel is near popular attractions such as Nyhavn harbour, the Royal Opera House and the bohemian Christiania community. The airport can be reached in less than 30 minutes by public transport.
