NCC has been awarded a contract by Karlskoga Municipality to construct a modern swim centre adjacent to the Nobelhallen sports facility. The project, structured as a turnkey contract in a partnering format, holds an order value of approximately SEK 440m (€38m).
“This is a major investment for Karlskoga. A new, state-of-the-art and sustainable swim centre will create better opportunities for sports, recreation and community, benefitting both residents and associations for many years to come,” says Tony Ring, Chairman of the Municipal Executive Board.
Planning for the facility began in spring 2023 in close collaboration with Karlskoga Municipality, local stakeholders, and NCC’s internal team of swim centre construction experts. The development will focus on sustainability, integrating measures to mitigate future climate risks, improve circularity, optimise operations, and conduct life cycle cost analyses. A child impact assessment will also ensure the design is inclusive, culturally adaptable, and fosters safe environments.
The 10,000 m² swim centre will feature a 25-m pool with ten lanes, a multifunctional pool with a height-adjustable floor, a diving pool with 1, 3, and 5-m springboards, a children’s pool, a relaxation area with a sauna, and a gym.
“We are pleased to develop and build the new swim centre in Karlskoga. By combining knowledge from our central team of swim centre experts with the local project team, we can work together with Karlskoga Municipality to realise the objectives of this project,” says Niklas Sparw, Head of NCC Building Sweden.
The project, valued at SEK 440m (€38m), will be registered under NCC Building Sweden in Q1 2025. Construction is set to begin immediately, with completion scheduled for Q1 2028.
