Harworth Estates, owned by Harworth Group plc, in partnership with the Welbeck Estate has received outline planning consent for a mixed-use development adjoining the Welbeck Country Park in Nottinghamshire.
Bassetlaw District Council has granted consent for the development of 117,325ft² (10,800m²) of office and other commercial space, alongside up to 65 residential units and 3,550ft² (330m²) of retail and food and beverage space on 73 acres of former colliery land south of Worksop.
Eddie Peat, director of Harworth Estates’ Natural Resources team, said: “We’ve enjoyed a huge amount of success working closely with other landowners, housebuilders and local authorities to achieve planning consents that provide regeneration benefits for local communities. This project in Welbeck will provide an attractive mixed-use environment in a very attractive setting. We are particularly conscious that new housing remains in short supply in the UK. By helping to bring forward land for new homes and commercial development, we are continuing to support efforts to rebalance the UK economy, while providing great places for people to live.”
Darren Ridout, estates surveyor for the Welbeck Estate, said: “We have an excellent working relationship with Harworth Estates and are delighted with the outcome of the application. Bringing forward the redevelopment of the Colliery is a priority for the Estate and we now look forward to delivering it.”
Councillor Jo White, cabinet member for regeneration at Bassetlaw District Council, said: “This mixed development provides a host of opportunities for the local area and, by working with cross-border partners, we should see another former mining community given a new lease of life. It is encouraging to see that this development will provide employment and housing and will fulfil the community’s aspirations to see regeneration and investment on the fringes of Bassetlaw.”
