In a strategic move signalling a new era of pan-European ambition, Edmond de Rothschild Real Estate Investment Management (REIM) has appointed Klaus Schmitz as Chief Investment Officer Europe and Executive Chairman of Edmond de Rothschild REIM UK, effective 1 September 2025.
Based in London, Schmitz will take a leading role in shaping and executing the firm’s pan-European investment strategy, overseeing both equity and debt opportunities across logistics, residential, mixed-use and operational real estate. Reporting directly to co-CEOs Pierre Jacquot and Arnaud Andrieu, he will also chair the Investment Committee and join the firm’s Executive Committee.

With €12.6bn assets under management and over 150 staff across eight offices, Edmond de Rothschild REIM has become a prominent player in sustainable real estate investing. Schmitz's appointment comes at a time when investor appetite is increasingly turning toward value-driven strategies combining ESG rigour with income resilience, particularly in sectors like urban logistics and modern rental housing, where demand is outstripping supply across Europe’s major hubs.
In his UK role, Schmitz will help accelerate expansion in the institutional-heavy London market, where capital partners are actively seeking experienced operators who can deliver structured, risk-adjusted returns in an increasingly complex environment. His remit includes deepening relationships with developers and capital allocators seeking long-term partnerships backed by a robust pan-European platform.
Previously a Managing Director at Ares Management, Schmitz focused on the DACH region and held senior roles at Peach Property Group, Starwood Capital Group, N.M. Rothschild & Sons and PIMCO. A graduate of Harvard Business School and the London School of Economics, his dealmaking spans €multi-million euro investments in logistics, office, NPLs, and special situations, giving him rare insight into cyclical real estate trends and capital structure flexibility.
