GIC, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, has acquired a 25% stake in the citizenM, a Netherlands-based fully integrated hotel real estate developer and hotel operator with 15 locations worldwide, with an enterprise value of €2bn.

Dutch pension provider APG and KRC Capital are also committing a further €750m to fund the company’s planned global expansion.
The “M” stands for “mobile” as it is a micro-hotel format which opened in 2008. With short-stay business travellers in mind it is currently planning on the purchase of 10 sites for development this year, with an expansion program aiming to open another 25 hotels in Asia, Europe and the US by 2020.
