Gerald Eve has been appointed by the Trades Union Congress (TUC) to bring its historic headquarters, Congress House, to market. Gerald Eve will also be supporting the TUC in finding a new fit-for-purpose headquarters building and overseeing the subsequent fit-out.
Congress House provides a mixture of conference, events, and office space over a basement, ground, and six upper floors totalling c.12,820m2 on Great Russell Street, just five minutes from Tottenham Court Road Station. The accommodation is arranged around a central atrium, which is home to an installation and sculpture by Jacob Epstein, considered one of the founders of modern sculpture.
The building has been the headquarters of the TUC since 1958, providing an impressive home for the federation, which represents the majority of trade unions in the UK.
Matthew Prout, Partner at Gerald Eve, commented: “For nearly seven decades, Congress House has been seen as the home of the trade union movement, so it is with deep appreciation that we take on this mandate to bring such a historic landmark to the market. At the same time, we will be looking for a new home for the TUC that will help to deliver a sustainable and positive future.”
