NCC has been commissioned to construct the new Högland Hospital in Eksjö on behalf of Regionfastigheter in Jönköping County. The order is worth €67 mln (SEK 625 mln).
The purpose of the extension is to modernise care in the south Swedish highlands. As part of the project, Eksjö will receive nine new operating theaters, an intensive care unit, a paediatric and adolescent centre, an orthopedic centre and a nursing unit.
“The new building will contribute to increasing patient safety by reducing the spread of infection. The work environment will be enhanced and the building will be able to meet tomorrow’s care requirements and also provide opportunities for more efficient work methods and higher production,” says Tomas Calmviken, Property Manager at Regionfastigheter.
The new hospital building, comprising a total of seven floors, will be joined to the current Högland Hospital via a light well. With the new building structure, the Högland Hospital will be nearly 30,000 m² larger and will feature new attractive premises for care, service, administration and educational purposes. For inhabitants of the region, the hospital signifies more modern and better care.
The project will commence with groundworks in February 2016 and is scheduled for completion in May 2019. The order will be registered in the fourth quarter of 2015 in the NCC Construction Sweden business area.
