Strategic infrastructure works to reinforce Sweden’s defence assets amid regional security focus
NCC, one of the leading construction firms in the Nordics, has secured a significant contract from the Swedish Fortifications Agency, valued at approximately €27m (SEK 300 million), to deliver vital construction and civil engineering works in northern Sweden. The project will commence immediately and is registered under NCC’s Infrastructure business unit for Q2 2025.
The Swedish Fortifications Agency oversees the ownership, development, and management of defence-related properties across Sweden, underpinning the country’s national security infrastructure. This latest commission underscores increasing government investment in resilient defence infrastructure, a critical factor amid evolving geopolitical challenges in the Nordic region.
“The Swedish Fortifications Agency owns, develops and manages Sweden’s defence properties. The project includes construction and civil engineering works that will commence immediately,” stated the agency in its official announcement.
For investors and developers, the contract signals a strong pipeline of public infrastructure spending, particularly in strategic sectors such as defence, which typically offer long-term, stable returns and countercyclical benefits in uncertain economic times. Moreover, NCC’s expertise in complex construction processes strengthens its ability to deliver value in technically demanding environments.
The project’s scale and timing position NCC to further expand its footprint in northern Sweden, a region poised for growth due to its strategic importance and increasing infrastructure requirements. As governments across Europe prioritise security and infrastructure resilience, partnerships like this with NCC will be crucial in shaping future development frameworks.
