The Buikslotermeerplein in Amsterdam-Noord is evolving into a vibrant hub for living, working, and leisure. City Council has approved investment memorandum that will pave the way for significant development, creating a greener and livelier area with better connections to surrounding neighbourhoods. This includes space for about 1900 homes within the shopping centre and almost 900 on the edges of the Centre Square.
Reinier van Dantzig: "Noord is one of the areas that deserves to have a fully-fledged city centre while retaining its own character. With this plan, we are taking a big step towards developing the Buikslotermeerplein and the space around it into a real, green city centre. We do this together with the neighbourhood. I look forward to the development of this distinctive part of Amsterdam."
The real estate owners of the shopping centre have drawn up rules for development, agreeing on the future look of the area. Most new buildings will be as tall as those around Station Noord, with lower floors reserved for public functions. The area will offer a variety of functions, including shopping, culture, relaxation, housing, nightlife, a city office, education, and easy access to the metro.
The Centrumplein sub-area between the city counter and the shopping centre will include four sustainably designed, green squares.
