Winvic has begun the €41.9m design-and-build contract to construct four warehouses totalling 30,193m2 on the former Rolls Royce Engineering Works Factory site.
Atlantic Park is a 210,436m2 site in Liverpool's freeport zone. Royal London Mutual Insurance Society owns the site and has planning permission to construct 74,322m2 of industrial facilities. Currently, they are constructing four warehouses with office spaces, ranging from 3,716m2 to 11,612m2.
Winvic has been given the responsibility to construct buildings in a way that has a net-zero impact. To achieve this, they are making use of recycled scrap metal in the reinforcement steel of the project, and replacing regular concrete with a mixture that includes GGBS - a byproduct of ironmaking. Additionally, the contractor will recycle water, which will help to reduce the amount of mains water used by 40%.
“We’re delighted to have impressed the Royal London team during the tender process and are ready to deliver four industrial facilities as net zero in construction for our new client,” said Danny Nelson, Winvic head of industrial, distribution, and logistics.
Royal London’s plans for the warehouses also include a 10% biodiversity net gain for the site through the inclusion of bird, bat, and insect boxes. Royal London is targeting a BREEAM Excellent rating for the sheds, as well as an EPC A score.
Matthew Barnes, senior asset manager at Royal London said “The scheme will showcase Royal London’s commitment to its sustainability principles and its ambition to create real long-term investment value for its members.”
