Senaatti Kinteistot sold property in Otaniemi to Aalto University (FI)

Senaatti kinteistot has sold the office and laboratory property located at Tietotie 2 in Otaniemi, Espoo to Aalto University. It was built in several stages starting in the 1960s. Technology research centre VTT Oy ended operation on the property in the fall of 2023, after which it has been empty. The site is located in the central location of the campus, next to the School of Business and the School of Arts and Design.

"This real estate transaction further consolidates the good cooperation between the Senate and Aalto University in Otaniemi. We have several joint ongoing and completed formula development projects. The transfer of the site to Aalto's ownership supports the development of the university's core campus and is in accordance with the principles of the university real estate arrangement regarding campus areas implemented in 2009," stated the Senate's real estate development manager Emmi Sihvonen.

"The real estate transaction gives us the opportunity to strengthen the functions and services located at the core of our campus area. In the future, Tietotie 2 will offer space for the functions of both the university and our partners," said Ville Jokela, CEO of Aalto University Properties.

Aalto University intends to develop the property to serve the university's use. Tietotie 4, which is still owned by the Senate in Biologi's rezoning area, aims to be zoned for housing and will later be sold by tender. The same rezoning area for Biologi also includes the so-called Marine Technology area owned by Aalto University at Tietotie 1.
