Kesko and SSA Rakennus Oy are set to build a new K-Citymarket hypermarket store in Kivisto, Vantaa. This will be Kesko’s fifth hypermarket in Vantaa, which is the fourth biggest city in Finland and part of the Helsinki metropolitan area. The premises will host the K-Citymarket and some 20 other commercial facilities, as well as a 9-story residential apartment building built by SSA Rakennus.
The total scope of the project, including the business centre and apartment tower, is 40,000m2. The new hypermarket will be over 7,000m2 in size, half of which will be dedicated to food and half to home and speciality goods. The premises will also include over 6,000m2 of other commercial facilities on three floors. Customer parking will accommodate more than 300 cars and 500 bicycles.
”We are thrilled to be able to strengthen our network of K-Citymarket stores by expanding to the rapidly developing neighbourhood of Kivistö, which also offers excellent traffic connections. We believe that the new K-Citymarket store and other commercial services on the premises will help make Kivistö even more attractive as a neighbourhood and improve the quality of life for those living in the area,” said Mika Sivula, Regional Director for Kesko in Southern Finland.
"We thank all the parties involved in the project, especially the city of Vantaa and Kesko, with whom the collaboration has been about finding solutions from the beginning. Cooperation with all stakeholders has been good, and issues with the planning group have been resolved with an excellent attitude. It is nice to move on to the implementation phase of the project", Unit Manager Hannu Riikola commented.
Land lease agreements for the project were signed with the city of Vantaa on 12 September 2023, and construction can start almost straight away. The objective is for the new K-Citymarket hypermarket to open in early spring 2026.
