Design Studio Deltametropolis launched

Design Studio Deltametropolis, a group of three teams of architects, responsible for the plans on the future of the Randstad area was launched on September 23.

The Fifth National Policy Document on Spatial Planning and the National Traffic and Transport Plan by Dutch government describe the aim of transforming the Randstad the region including the cities of Amsterdam, The Hague, Utrecht and Rotterdam into 'Deltametropolis' a metropolitan area designed to match other similar ones in Europe and the rest of the world.

Three teams of designers have been commissioned to form a workshop and create models that express the unity of the constituting elements of the Deltametropolis. Each are lead by renowned Dutch architects, Rem Koolhaas, Dirk Sijmons en Teun Koolhaas. Regional architects will also play a significant role within the teams.

The teams were not only requested to present their view on the future Deltametropolis but also to work out plans for individual areas within the region as a whole. The Swiss architect Luigi Snozzi was also commissioned to put together a team and further develop his previous work in the region.

Design Studio Deltametropolis is going to organize various seminars in the coming months.
