BNP Paribas acquires two new office buildings in Lisbon (PT)

BNP Paribas has completed the acquisition of the Aura and Echo buildings in the Exeo development for its new headquarters in Lisbon, Portugal. With a total area of 37,000m², plus 13,000m² of gardens open to the public, the BNP Paribas campus will be located in Parque das Nacoes and will have a capacity to host 5,000 employees under a flexible working model.

“The new BNP Paribas campus represents the Group´s clear commitment to Portugal and is thus the answer to its expected growth of the coming years. Considering the strong presence that we already have both in Lisbon and in Porto, the chosen location brings us closer to the community, considering the common outdoor spaces are for public use, as to our clients, considering that Parque das Nações houses numerous national and international companies. The new headquarters represent a significant commitment to the way we are established in Lisbon, not only for its avant-garde construction and architecture but also for the fact that we centralise almost all of our activity in the same space, creating a new meeting point for employees. After more than 35 years’ of operating in the Portuguese market, we feel that this is the right step, reinforcing a long-term commitment,” said Fabrice Segui, CEO of BNP Paribas in Portugal.

This project materializes the Group’s commitments toward sustainability, both in terms of its construction and of the integrated sustainable mobility system. The buildings will have a rainwater tank to irrigate the gardens (covering around 50% of irrigation needs), photovoltaic panels that will make it possible to supply the energy consumption of the common areas, car parks with electric charging stations and bicycle parking. Considering its Nature-Based Solutions (NBA) and green infrastructures, the Bank will, therefore, be able to reduce its operational energy expenditure and carbon emissions. Developed by AVENUE and an Aermont Capital managed investment fund, in partnership with BNP Paribas Real Estate, the move to the first building is expected to take place in the first semester of 2024, with the second move taking place the following year.

Aniceto Viegas, CEO of AVENUE, said:“We are delighted with this transaction that will complete the development of the Exeo Office Campus. Together with Aermont Capital, we developed in 2017 a strong conviction around the lack of modern sustainable office campus offering in the Lisbon market post-financial crisis and Exeo was designed to answer the future requirements of the most demanding office users at a privileged location in Parque das Nacoes. We are very proud of having been selected by BNP Paribas to develop their new headquarter offices in Lisbon in Exeo.”

Thierry Laroue-Pont, Chairman & CEO of BNP Paribas Real Estate commented: "BNP Paribas Real Estate is proud to further demonstrate its longstanding support to the European real estate plans of BNP Paribas. The addition of Lisbon to the long list of projects already sourced and developed for the Group clearly illustrates the synergies of our integrated pan-European real estate model."
