REnews.media launches flagship urban logistics conference

REnews.media will host its first in-person event on 20th February 2024 in Amsterdam. REILE 2024 will gather 300 influential decision-makers from top global brokerage firms, developers, asset management and investment firms and logistics companies for a one-day conference to discuss the future of urban logistics in Europe.

Urban logistics has emerged as a robust asset class, demonstrating greater resilience against market volatility compared to other asset classes. The surge in urbanisation, the growth of e-commerce, and increased environmental regulations in urban areas are steering logistics businesses towards a notable shift from large warehouses to strategically positioned urban logistics hubs. A report by Cushman & Wakefield found that the global cost of last mile delivery is as high as €70 billion and is expected to grow between 7 -10% over the next five years in mature markets such as the UK and Western Europe.

In light of this transformative shift, it is crucial for real estate and logistics professionals to navigate the dynamic landscape of urban logistics swiftly. Staying ahead of the latest innovations, challenges, and trends is paramount” shared Fedja Jovanovic, President and Editor-in-Chief at REnews.media. “At REILE 2024, industry disruptors will discuss the biggest challenges surrounding urban logistics and will work together to uncover solutions, generate ideas and introduce innovations to propel this sector forward. The conversations and knowledge-sharing during the event will inspire collaborations, influence policy decisions and launch new cutting-edge technologies”.

The logistics market has changed beyond recognition since the pandemic and while the wider market has arguably peaked, there is huge scope for growth in the urban logistics subsector. However, there are also challenges. There is not a one-size fits all solution and some locations are better suited than others to urban logistics” commented Liz Hamson, the conference Chair and Editor-in-chief at BE News. “That’s why REILE is such an important event – it helps industry professionals cut through the noise and understand where the opportunities lie as well as overcome the challenges”.

Urban logistics is a rapidly evolving segment and one that is vitally important to the ongoing economic, environmental and social success of our cities” shared Tom Duncan, a conference speaker and Head of Research and Investment Strategy at Cromwell Property Group. “It is critical that the industry comes together to share knowledge, experience and ideas about how we can successfully deliver new supply which is sustainable, highly functioning and maximises the potential of our increasingly scarce urban sites. I am looking forward to discussing the issue of land/site scarcity, improving the ESG value on urban logistics, whether we will see more multi-storey assets in Europe, and technological innovations in operation at REILE 2024”.

At REILE 2024, attendees will have the opportunity to discover the latest advancements in warehouse technology, learn about upcoming legislation and regulation throughout Europe and uncover the innovative approaches being adopted by logistics companies striving for sustainability. The event goes beyond the traditional conference format, offering immersive sessions, balloon debates, interactive workshops and speed networking.

REILE 2024 will feature leading experts from across Europe as keynote speakers and panelists discussing forecasts and best practices in the industry. Speakers include Liz Hamson, Editor-in-chief at BE News, Jan van den Hogen, Tenant Relationship Manager at Deka Immobilien Investment GmbH, Tom Duncan, Head of Research and Investment Strategy at Cromwell Property Group, Simon Rispin, Director / Principal Architect at Smalley Marsey Rispin Architects Ltd and Grant Lonsdale, Director of Market Analytics at CoStar.

REILE stands out as a Pan-European event in an industry largely dominated by regional conferences. While many events primarily focus on specific markets, REILE provides a comprehensive perspective by featuring international content and speakers. Attendees gain essential insights into different markets, exploring trends, regulations, and identifying challenges and opportunities beyond their local landscape” stated Fedja Jovanovic.

Urban logistics has been among real estate’s best-performing subsectors over the past few years, thanks to imbalances between supply and demand across many European cities. But each city has its own dynamics and competing priorities, including serving the needs of growing populations while meeting climate targets” shared Grant Lonsdale, a conference speaker and Director of Market Analytics at CoStar. “The REILE conference’s Europe-wide perspective makes it well-placed to shed light on how market participants are overcoming challenges in disparate markets and where the opportunities for investors may lie.”

In order to encourage sustainable practices, REILE 2024 has partnered with the reforestation initiative One Tree Planted. For every conference ticket purchased, they will plant a tree on behalf of the customer. These trees will be planted in Brazil, restoring the Atlantic Forest in key areas.

REILE 2024 is the first of a series of events organised by REnews.media set to take place throughout the year in varying locations across Europe. Each event will focus on a different asset class within the real estate sector.
