NCC and Liseberg amusement park have, within the framework of an existing contract, signed an agreement for the reconstruction of Oceana Water World in Gothenburg. The assignment is a partnering contract with an order value of c. €53.4m.
Since March 2024, NCC has been conducting demolition and remediation work and measures to minimize damage to the areas of Oceana that remain intact following the fire that ravaged the project in February of the same year. In July of last year, NCC and Liseberg signed an agreement for the reconstruction of Oceana and since then have been planning and designing the reconstruction. The parties have now signed an agreement for the next phase of the work and construction can commence.
“We have now completed the final step and the reconstruction can now start in earnest. It is wonderful that, together with Liseberg, we will complete the project that we initiated many years ago,” said Niklas Sparw, Head of NCC Building Sweden.
NCC is the main contractor for the construction project and will build, among other structures, the waterpark tower, a new roof and facades, extensive installations and new surfaces, and complete the indoor environment.
“I am delighted that we have now reached the turning point where we are starting to rebuild Oceana. It has been a tumultuous time since the fire, but now we can look ahead with confidence and focus on reopening the attraction. It’s an important project not only for Liseberg but also for Gothenburg,” said Andreas Andersen, CEO of Liseberg.
Construction will commence immediately, and the water world is scheduled for completion around year-end 2026.
The contract is part of NCC’s partnering agreement with Liseberg under which NCC has previously completed and handed over the Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel, the first stage of Liseberg’s expansion plans, comprising an experiential hotel and water world.
