NCC and the City of Rovaniemi partnered at an early stage to plan and produce construction documentation to both expand and renovate the existing school in the Nivavaara district. The parties have now signed contracts for the first phase of the project which encompasses the construction of a new school building, a new sports hall and upgrading the schoolyards and the adjacent sports grounds. The contract is valued at c. €33.6 and the order will be registered in the NCC Building Nordics business area in the third quarter of 2023.
“NCC is highly experienced in the construction of schools. When we are involved at an early stage we can add valuable knowledge throughout the construction process. Together with the City of Rovaniemi, we are now building a healthy, innovative and safe school with first-rate learning environments,” said Catarina Molen Runnas, Head of NCC Building Nordics.
The new school building will be 10,600m2 in size and will house premises for various types of operations such as school, sports, preschool and adult education. The premises will also be used by sports clubs, associations and other clubs. The new building has been named Napsu.
The second phase of the project includes the renovation of the existing Nivavaara school, and contracts for this assignment will be signed later. Construction has commenced; completion of the building is expected in the summer of 2025 and of the remaining parts in the autumn of 2026.
