Land Securities Group PLC announces that it has appointed Richard Akers, Managing Director, Retail Portfolio to the Board.
Richard (43) has been responsible for the management of Land Securities' Retail portfolio and 250-strong team since the restructure in 2004 and, in particular, has been focusing on improving customer service for some 2,000 retail occupiers across the UK. The £5.3bn retail portfolio includes 21 shopping centres, 24 retail parks and a £500m development programme.
Previously, as the Head of Retail Portfolio Management, Richard was responsible for the performance of the shopping centre investment portfolio, which has outperformed IPD for the past four years.
Together with Land Securities' new business team, Richard has been instrumental in the latest retail transactions, including the creation of the Metro Fund and Scottish Retail partnerships; the Slough property exchange; and the recent recommended cash offer for Tops Estates Plc.
Commenting on the appointment, Land Securities' Chairman, Peter Birch, said, "Richard brings to the Board a strong insight into the retail market and in particular the needs of modern occupiers. We are delighted that he has agreed to join the Board."
