KCAP finalised Helguvik-Bergvik Framework Plan (IS)

KCAP has finalised the Helguvik-Bergvik Framework Plan, in Iceland. Set in the Suournes region, near Keflavík Airport, the Helguvik-Bergvík Framework Plan outlines the future development of an ambitious new eco-industrial park. The plan represents a forward-thinking approach to sustainable industrial development in Iceland, focusing on integrating environmental, social and economic aspects, into one new comprehensive vision. The overarching goal is to transform Helguvik-Bergvík into a manufacturing and energy hub that boosts the economy while caring for the environment. Positioned to become Iceland's leading eco-industrial area, it's set to create countless new jobs and elevate the region's robust global competitiveness.

The circularity strategy aims to promote efficient resource use, minimise waste, and create synergies between industries, to improve overall sustainability. The site will be divided into six clustered areas, each focusing on sectors such as clean energy, innovation park, circular economy, clean building, port logistics, food and bioeconomy. This division allows for tailored strategies for each area, ensuring a holistic and well-organised approach to land use and industrial activities. It's a blueprint for turning the Suournes region, into a model of eco-industrial success, by balancing efficiency, environmental care and social responsibility on both local and international stages.

The plan has been developed for Kadeco, in collaboration with partnerssuch as Buro Happold, EFLA Consulting, and BCI Global, with contributions from experts in urban planning, landscape architecture, energy transformation and other related disciplines.
