Impregilo asks for €800-850m in bank loans to repay bonds (IT)

Impregilo SpA asked banks in a meeting held yesterday to provide €800-850 mln in loans and bank guarantees, in order to repay €550 mln in bonds expiring this year, and to continue operating, the daily La Repubblica said.

The meeting was attended by Banca Intesa SpA, Unicredito Italiano SpA, Sanpaolo IMI SpA and Capitalia SpA, it added.

The banks agreed to help the company as long as the group´s shareholders contribute financially to the group´s survival, it said.

Impregilo´s chairman Paolo Savona and chief executive Piergiorgio Romiti are expected to ask the group´s key shareholders what contribution they are willing to make, the newspaper said.

The daily added that the influential merchant bank Mediobanca SpA advocates opening Impregilo´s capital to new shareholders, or selling some of the group´s activities.
