Former Greater Manchester Police HQ to turn into 750 new homes (GB)

A partnership has been established to build approximately 750 new residences on the former Greater Manchester Police headquarters site in Stretford. The 3.8-ha area will undergo a transformation as a result of a collaboration between international property developer FEC (Far East Consortium), Trafford Council, and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA).

The revamp will incorporate 25% affordable housing in accordance with the council's dedication to creating environmentally friendly, reasonably priced residences. In addition to the housing, the initiative will encompass a hotel, recreational amenities, retail spaces, corporate facilities, and communal areas, all with convenient access to public transportation connecting to Manchester city centre.

Gavin Taylor, managing director at FEC Manchester, said, “It’s incredibly exciting to be able to formalise our agreement with the council and GMCA so that we can get underway with delivering the new vision for this regionally important project.

Councillor Liz Patel from Trafford Council praised the project: “This is a very important site in the centre of the council’s Civic Quarter. We look forward to progressing this exciting project, which will bring forward 750 sustainable new homes including much-needed affordable housing.

Developers were chosen after a competitive procurement process initiated in 2022, with construction networking events in Greater Manchester expected to explore similar opportunities for large-scale regeneration.
