Schiphol Real Estate BV and BurgGolf Schiphol BV have signed an agreement to build and operate a golf course and a clubhouse at Nieuwe Meer, alongside the A9 motorway north of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. BurgGolf Schiphol BV is scheduled to begin building the golf course during the first six months of 2003, with the golf course scheduled to open in the latter half of 2004.
BurgGolf Schiphol BV is an operating company and part of the BurgGolf golf course chain, the largest golf course operator in the Netherlands. The company will absorb the investment costs and will be responsible for operating the golfing complex.
The initiative to develop the property into a top quality location with a golf course and a luxury hotel was taken by Schiphol Real Estate BV. Schiphol Group´s fully-owned real estate subsidiary owns the grounds occupying well over 70 hectares of land. The project is a further step in developing Amsterdam Airport Schiphol into an AirportCity, which offers business and leisure facilities and services to passengers, visitors and companies located at the airport 24-hours a day.
The 18-hole golf course will also have a driving range designed by the Belgian golf course architect Bruno Steensels. The complex will consist of a clubhouse, linked to the indoor driving range, and will offer facilities such as a restaurant, business lounge and golf shop. The golf course targets both companies and private individuals located at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and environs, Amsterdam, and the area surrounding the capital city. Transfer passengers and private individuals are also welcome to use the complex.
The golf course has been designed to meet the quality standards as defined by the Dutch Golfing Federation. The golf course also aims to meet the quality requirements of the European PGA tour so as to be able to accommodate large-scale international tournaments in the future.
Negotiations are currently being held on developing a 'four-star plus' hotel complex with around 400 rooms.
