Bouwfonds and ING complete first phase of Waasland Shopping Center (Belgium)

Bouwfonds Ontwikkeling and ING Real Estate have completed the first phase of the renovation and extension (in total 19.000 m²) of the Waasland Shopping Center in Sint-Niklaas in Belgium. After completion of the second phase in March 2004, the Waasland Shopping Center will have a total surface of 45.000 m².

In co-operation with local entrepreneurs, the Municipality of Sint-Niklaas, Redevco and Delhaize, ING and Bouwfonds Ontwikkeling (the Belgian subsidiary of Bouwfonds Property Development) have worked on a transformation of the first 19.000 m² into a dynamic and modern shopping area. The delivery of the first phase of the shopping center in Sint-Niklaas (a city in between Antwerp and Gent) was preceeded by 15 years of discussion and planning. Bouwfonds and ING became involved in the projects a few years ago. Devimo Group is the owner of the center.

In 2004 the Waasland Shopping Center will contain approx. 140 shops, over 100 more than the present complex. This will make Waasland Shopping Center the second largest shopping center in Flanders. The shops of C&A, Innovation and Delhaize, as well as the majority of the retailers in the existing complex, will return after the renovation.
