Azora, through its subsidiary Tillion Data Centres, has announced plans to develop a large-scale data centre in Zaragoza, Aragon, with an initial capacity of 150 MW, expandable to 300 MW. The investment will total up to €2bn, with an additional €5bn expected from end users for computing equipment. The project has secured grid connection approval and has been granted a Declaration of General Interest (DIGA) by the Government of Aragon, allowing construction to commence in 2026.
Positioned as a key hub for digital infrastructure, Zaragoza joins Europe’s leading data centre markets, including Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris, and Dublin (FLAP-D). The site, located near Villamayor de Gállego, benefits from strong connectivity and proximity to energy infrastructure, minimising environmental impact while ensuring operational efficiency. The facility will be powered entirely by renewable energy, with advanced closed-loop cooling systems limiting water consumption to under 2,500 cubic metres annually.
The first phase of the project, at 150 MW, will involve a €1.1bn investment, creating over 1,000 jobs per year and contributing €5.5bn to the regional GDP. A full-scale expansion to 300 MW would bring total investment to €1.95bn, generating more than 1,800 jobs annually and driving over €9bn in economic impact. The data centre is part of Azora’s broader commitment to digital infrastructure, following the 2023 launch of Quetta Data Centres, which is already developing sites in Madrid and Barcelona.
Tillion Data Centres aims to develop high-capacity, hyper-connected facilities to support the expansion of cloud computing and artificial intelligence. The project strengthens Azora’s position as a major player in Europe’s digital infrastructure sector, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability, technological innovation, and economic development.
Santiago Olivares, Partner in charge of infrastructure investments at Azora, highlighted the growing demand for data processing driven by AI and cloud computing, positioning Zaragoza as a critical corridor for large-scale data centres in Europe. He affirmed Azora’s commitment to expanding beyond 600 MW in Spain, leveraging its expertise in energy infrastructure to ensure long-term success.
According to Santiago Olivares, partner in charge of infrastructure investments at Azora: “The growing demand for data processing capacity, driven by the expansion of artificial intelligence and cloud computing, requires huge investment in the construction of data centres. This new data centre is located in the main corridor of large-scale data centres in Europe, and is validated by the presence of major players in the sector and backed by an energy and industrial network ideally suited to sustain market growth. With plans to develop more than 600 MW in Spain we remain committed to expanding critical assets for the digital future. Our extensive track record in the development of energy infrastructure allows us to identify great opportunities like this one and guarantee their long-term viability. With this new Data Centre, Azora reaffirms its commitment to innovation, sustainability and economic development, consolidating its position as a key player in the evolution of digital infrastructure in Europe.”
