Altera and Stebru celebrated topping out of mixed-use project in Zaandam (NL)

Altera and Stebru celebrated the topping out of the De Zaanse Helden project in Zaandam. The De Zaanse Helden project consists of ten different residential buildings, a commercial space of 1,375 m², a rooftop garden and a car park based on a design by Havermans Hielkema Architecten. A total of 607 apartments are being constructed, divided into 356 private rental, 163 social rental and 88 owner-occupied apartments. Altera owns a total of 356 apartments, divided across five buildings, and 310 parking spaces.

The communal, nature-inclusive rooftop garden, designed by LOLA Landscape Architects and Deltavormgroep, will ensure social cohesion and tie everything together, connecting the adjacent Molenpark, the De Zaanse Helden buildings and the neighbouring Burano complex.

The two- or three-room apartments have a surface area of 52 to 108 m², as well as an ample terrace or balcony. The project meets the ESG demands laid down by Altera’s policy, as the apartments will be equipped with PV panels, a thermal energy storage facility and a heat exchanging installation.

Jaap van der Bijl, CEO of Altera: “De Zaanse Helden is in a great location, right next to Amsterdam. What’s ideal for families, seniors, starters and movers is its sustainable character, which makes for a future-proof residential concept. The project is a great fit, therefore, for our sustainable, young residential portfolio.

Robert Steenbrugge, Managing Director of Stebru: “We started construction on De Zaanse Helden in 2021 and are extremely proud of where we are today. Not only are we contributing to the social and sustainable ambitions of Altera and the municipality of Zaandam with De Zaanse Helden, but we’re also adding 607 homes to Zaandam. That means that 1,200 to 1,500 people will live here. In the current tight market, that’s fantastic news for anyone looking for a home in the Greater Amsterdam area.”
