Places for People acquired resi scheme site in Lancashire from Wain Homes (UK)

Places for People has acquired a new homes site in Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire with planning consent for 80 new homes. Purchased from Wain Homes, the development is part of the group’s push to increase the number of homes delivered across the UK.

The c. 26,305m2 site is located in the village of Thornton close to the Wyre Estuary Country Park, just a few miles outside of Blackpool. Places for People will build 28 homes for shared ownership and 52 for rent, designed in a mix of sizes and layouts that will provide much-needed accommodation and contribute towards local housing targets. The layouts of the homes will be reconfigured to Places for People’s standard house types that promise carefully considered design and high standards of energy efficiency.

Places for People aims to start on site in early 2024 with the first homes expected to be ready for occupation in the summer. The shared ownership options will allow buyers to get onto the property ladder in a newly built home that may otherwise be out of reach.

Nilam Buchanan, Regional Managing Director, Central and North at Places for People comments: “We are pleased to have completed the purchase of this site in Thornton-Cleveleys with planning permission already in place, allowing us to move ahead with the delivery of shared ownership and rental homes for local people. Wain Homes has already successfully established a popular new residential community in the earlier phase of development that creates an extension to the existing village, so our customers will be able to move into a convenient and thriving community. As a company, we are committed to building sustainable and resilient communities that include high standards of design and construction, incorporating attractive green spaces and energy-saving features where we know that people will feel welcome.”

With its expansive coastline and estuary, the Borough of Wyre is an appealing place to live, and the village of Thornton is well-served with local amenities. The Lambs Road site is well placed for commuting, with the M55 just a short drive away giving direct links to the motorway network, rail connections at Poulton-le-Fylde providing access to the West Coast Main Line services at Preston, and regular bus services operating throughout the area.
