New law on spatial planning

The government has approved a new law on spatial planning. Last year a draft was discussed in Parliament. Amendments have been made in terms of operations and procedures.

The new law simplifies i.e. procedures, makes a clearer distinction in the responsibilities of the various authorities and will improve spatial quality, as well as adequate means to uphold the regulations.

The new law will have broader targets than the present law. The pre-draft mentions a firmer position for zoning plans, easier rules on damages for zoning implementation and a better allowance for management fees of the various authorities. The government will pass on the draft to The Council of State of the Netherlands for advice.
