NCC takes on €27.6m mixed-use in Uppsala (SE)

NCC has been commissioned by Malmegårds Fastigheter AB to build four buildings with 122 new apartments and associated retail and office premises in the Torbjorns torg district of central Uppsala. The project is a turnkey contract in partnering form with an order value of c. €27.6m.

The project encompasses a total of four buildings, partially joined in a ‘U’ shape, comprising apartments, retail and office premises, storage spaces and a garage.

With this new and innovative residential housing project, we are creating an entirely unique and modern local centre in Uppsala. We are showing that, through ambitious sustainability targets, we can meet Uppsala’s challenging climate requirements for 2025. Together with NCC, we are on the leading edge from a sustainability perspective, and we have already received inquiries about how to sign up for an apartment for this exact reason,” said Bengt Malmgard, owner of Malmegårds Fastigheter AB.

In this project, NCC will make use of innovative technology to keep energy consumption down. For example, energy piling – where the piling is used to extract geothermal heat – is being tested. Using an optimized concrete frame with a high proportion of eco-friendly concrete, the project will also lower its carbon emissions by approximately 40% compared with the guidelines of the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning. This means that the project will have uniquely low energy consumption and carbon emissions. The goal is to meet the requirements for Miljobyggnad 4.0 Gold.

“NCC’s specialist expertise in carbon reduction technology means we can support our customers in achieving highly ambitious targets. We are pleased to be able to meet Malmegårds Fastigheter’s stringent requirements through innovative solutions, new technology and close collaboration right from the start,” said Niklas Sparw, Head of NCC Building Sweden.

The project will commence in the first quarter of 2025 and the apartments are scheduled for occupancy in late 2027.
