On Tuesday, November 19, Krefeld's Mayor Gregor Kathstede, the future tenant Siemens AG, and ECE laid the foundation stone for a new storage and logistics center of approximately 32,000 m² in Krefeld.
The building complex, which consists of two halls and a 1,000 m² office and social building, will serve as a central storage facility for the adjacent Siemens main manufacturing plant. Siemens will rent the new logistics center on a long-term lease. The completion of the entire project is scheduled for spring 2014.
Project development and management lie in the hands of ECE who will place the logistics property on the investment market. ECE selected Goldbeck as general contractor. Siemens has been based on the Krefeld site for decades, manufacturing high speed trains such as the ICE and other rail vehicles for regional and long-distance transport.
Alexander Otto, CEO of ECE: "We are proud to realize this storage and logistics center for the global player Siemens with our decades of experience in the construction of logistics properties".
Ulrich Semsek, Site Manager of Siemens Krefeld: "The new center will optimize our manufacturing processes to respond even better to customer requirements. Integrating state-of-the-art storage logistics with automated storage systems will make us faster and more efficient. Most of all, our customers will benefit from it.”
Gregor Kathstede, Mayor of Krefeld: "The new logistics center will prepare the Siemens site for the future and I am delighted about Siemens' commitment to Krefeld as a location."
