As the company enters this new phase, DECATHLON has announced the appointment of Javier López as its new Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Barbara Martin Coppola, who held the position since March 2022. Javier López brings a wealth of experience to the role, having been with DECATHLON for 26 years, holding positions in digital, logistics, and retail. Most recently, he served as Global Chief Value Chain Officer after successfully leading DECATHLON Spain from 2015 to 2022.
“I am particularly honoured by the confidence of Julien and the Board of Directors as I take up my new position, and I thank Barbara, with whom I have enjoyed working in the Executive Committee for the past 3 years. As a Decathlonian for 26 years, I’m proud of the work we've done to bring the benefits of sport to more and more people around the world. Together, with all our teammates, we will accelerate our economic development and our efforts to serve our human and environmental commitments,” said Javier López, the newly appointed CEO of DECATHLON.
This leadership transition coincides with DECATHLON’s continued commitment to fostering inclusivity and sustainability across its operations. With Javier López at the helm, DECATHLON is poised to accelerate its growth, expand its global presence, and further its mission to make sport accessible to all while maintaining a focus on human and environmental responsibility.
Under Barbara Martin Coppola, DECATHLON has seen notable progress, including a 13% reduction in CO2 emissions since 2021, the development of circular models, and a redefined customer experience across in-store and e-commerce platforms, which now account for 20% of revenue. The company also strengthened its brand portfolio and international partnerships, notably with the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Javier López expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him, stating: “Together, with all our teammates, we will accelerate our economic development and serve our human and environmental commitments.”
With López at the helm, DECATHLON is set to continue its commitment to sustainable growth and expand its global presence.
