Barcelona-based real estate company, Bonavista Developments, picked up the Five Star Awards in the residential and renovation redevelopment categories of the European Property Awards 2016-2017 during a glitzy ceremony at The Marriott Hotel, in Grosvenor Square, London, on October 28th.

The company transformed Casa Bures, one of the grandest family homes in Barcelona, into 26 quirky, but luxury, apartments.

The property, in the upmarket Eixample district, was built in 1900 by one of Gaudi’s leading collaborators, master builder Frances Berenguer Mestres, who worked with him on the iconic Sagrada Famillia.

But the 789.7m² building was nothing but a ruin and inhabited by squatters when it was sold to Bonavista Developments for more than €20m.

The multi-million-pound renovation project involved restoring original features and transforming the property into five penthouses, 21 apartments complete with a rooftop swimming pool and wine cellar. The property also features a stunning dome of stained glass covering a central atrium, mosaics, marble columns and an exquisite sculpture.

The award-winning company competed against the best property professionals across Europe to be awarded a prestigious European Property Award.
