Amsterdam expands hotel capacity

Amsterdam is to get 1,300 new hotel rooms before the end of 2003, there are plans for a further 3,400 before the end of 2006.

This will put an end to the shortage of overnight accommodation in the Dutch capital. Expansion will take place mainly in areas outside the centre, but with good transport connections both into and beyond the city. The accent is on new buildings in the three to five-star sector of the market. At the moment Amsterdam has eighteen five-star hotels.
