Underground transport project Schiphol airport shelved

A substantial transport project at Schiphol Airport, which was to connect the flower auction in Aalsmeer and Schiphol Airport has been shelved until further notice due to difficulty with regards to European transport regulations and the planned expansion of the airport with a sixth runway.

As a consequence Schiphol will not see a freight tunnel as the intended high-quality rail connection can not be guaranteed.

The project, coordinated by OLS (Undisturbed Logistics Systems), was initiated to increase the transport time of fragile and persihable freight (amongst which flowers) by high speed trains. The total investment was estimated at EUR 350 mln.
