Tokmanni has concluded an agreement with the retailer and entrepreneurial couple Terttu and Jaakko Pirtinaho’s Mutalan Kauppa Oy to acquire the business of the Villen Kauppa grocery store in Ylojarvi. The business to be acquired will transfer to Tokmanni on 1 January 2024. The commercial centre’s current Tokmanni store, measuring approximately 3,000m2, and equally large Villen Kauppa will be combined into a Tokmanni store measuring approximately 6,000m2 in early 2024. Thus, the Tokmanni store in Ylojarvi will become a full-service grocery shop. Tokmanni aims to retain employees of Villen Kauppa as "old employees".
“Customers have been full of praise for Villen Kauppa’s comprehensive range of groceries and excellent service. It’s great to be able to combine such a versatile grocery store with the Tokmanni that is operating under the same roof. This will provide us with even better opportunities to develop our assortment to benefit our customers in Ylojarvi,” said Mika Rautiainen, President and CEO of Tokmanni Group.
“I would like to warmly thank retailer and entrepreneurial couple Terttu and Jaakko Pirtinaho, who have worked tirelessly to promote the cause of Finnish food and who are now retiring and selling Villen Kauppa, for their smooth cooperation in completing the deal and for their confidence in us to further develop retail trade in Ylojarvi. We are very pleased that we will be able to serve our customers in Ylöjärvi with the assortment offered by a full-service grocery store,” he added.
Tokmanni has started planning the refurbishment of the Tokmanni store in Ylojarvi. The refurbished Tokmanni, with its highly diverse assortments, will open to customers in early 2024. Both Tokmanni and Villen Kauppa will serve their customers normally until the end of 2023. The Tokmanni store will also serve its customers during the refurbishment.
