Reiss & Co. has agreed a long-term lease with the Motel One Group on a hotel to be constructed on the site of the former EnBW Stuttgart headquarters, between Kriegsbergstrasse and Jägerstrasse.
The plans for the new "Motel One" budget designer hotel, with its striking brick architecture, were drawn up by the well-known Lederer Ragnarsdóttir Oei (LRO) architectural practice, which also designed the adjoining prize-winning complex, built in 1996. With around 400 rooms, the new hotel will be arranged over six floors with a further, top storey offset from the frontage. The ground floor, fronting Kriegsbergstrasse, has been designed with a waved façade and will be set back from the street.
The lavishly designed brick façade will be faced with anthracite-coloured "Baggeridge" bricks, laid in English stretcher bond. The layered façade will mark the entrance area to the hotel.
Jürgen Klein, head of Reiss & Co.'s Stuttgart branch, comments: "The design of the new 'Motel One' in Kriegsbergstrasse is a masterful application of our objective of creativity, combined with the demand for architecture in harmony with our existing, adjoining building, dating from 1996.“
The almost floor-to-ceiling windows are designed in a double casement structure, with light-coloured glazing, meeting the most stringent requirements for sound insulation. There will be a landscaped, U-shaped inner courtyard with breakfast terrace, plus an additional lounge area with terrace on Goethestrasse for the guests. 140 underground parking spaces are also planned.
Architects Lederer Ragnarsdóttir Oei (LRO) were awarded the contract for the new building in July 2017. Construction is scheduled to start in Q2/2018, with completion in 2020.
