Norwegian plans for Gliwice retail mall (PL)

Authorities in Gliwice (south west Poland) have given permission for a 47,000 m² site, located in city’s center, to be developed into a two-storey retail and leisure center.

As well as a 15,800 m² hypermarket, a further 26,700 m² will be given over to a mall with smaller shops and a food hall. The center will also feature a multiplex, bowling alley, fitness center, 1,000 m² of office space and 1,000 parking spaces.

Construction is due to commence in March 2005.The holder of the land is the Norwegian shipping company Borgestad, which obtained the land in 1998 when purchasing a producer of fire retardant materials. However, the site’s factory closed in March of this year. Borgestad is looking to realize the project in partnership with its Norwegian counterpart, the developer Steen & Strom.
