Michael Kors is planning to open its first store in Gothenburg in 2016 – on the corner of Fredsgatan and Södra Hamngatan – in one of Hufvudstaden’s properties. Michael Kors opened its first Swedisch store in Stockholm in 2013.

“This establishment by Michael Kors is fully in line with Hufvudstaden's development strategy for the area around Fredsgatan. The store will strengthen the position of the area as one of Gothenburg’s most attractive shopping destinations.” says Ivo Stopner, president of Hufvudstaden.

Gothenburg is one of Europe’s most affluent cities with a mature retail market and increasing attractiveness for international retailers, according to JLL’s Destination Nordics 2015 report. Gothenburg’s prime retail area is concentrated around Kungsgatan and Fredsgatan in the city centre, with international brands such as Massimo Dutti, Zara and H&M. The opening of a Michael Kors store in a prime location represents a critical success factor in the development of an attractive, high-end retail sector in the city centre.
