Jerde Master Plan revitalizes Amsterdams Amsterdamse Poort (NL)

Internationally-acclaimed architecture and urban planning firm The Jerde Partnership announced it is working with city officials, ING Real Estate and local business owners and residents to develop a new master plan for the redevelopment of Amsterdamse Poort in Amsterdam’s Centrumgebied Zuidoost district.

The plan, which includes the Arena Boulevard, Bijlmer Station and Amsterdamse Poort, will create a vibrant new residential, office, retail, dining and entertainment district and will provide Amsterdam with a second city center in Centrumgebied Zuidoost.

Jerde¹s mixed-use master plan reinvigorates the district as a unique, culturally diverse area where people will come to relax, conduct business, shop and dine. A range of local and international retail and dining choices are complemented by outdoor elements such as public art, landscaping, extensive water features, and patterns, colors and textures derivative of the range of cultures represented in the area. Twelve distinct areas articulated within Amsterdamse Poort will draw visitors through the area, providing them with unexpected attractions along the way. The plan integrates the district successfully with the surrounding neighborhoods, encouraging access and use by residents and visitors from nearby areas.

"The master plan creates a new vision for Amsterdamse Poort," said architect David Rogers, senior vice president and the design principal responsible for many of Jerde¹s European projects. "To create a truly memorable place where people will come to enjoy themselves time and again, we¹ve stressed connectivity, differentiation and articulation in our design. Å'Connectivity¹ introduces new destinations that will seamlessly guide visitors from the arena and station through Amsterdamse Poort; Å'differentiation¹ and Å'articulation¹ allow the distinct areas within Amsterdamse Poort and the district itself to offer unique experiences that attract and engage people."

Nearly 700 million people visit Jerde¹s uniquely designed places every year. In Europe, Jerde¹s projects include The Netherland's Beursplein and Klanderiij, Poland¹s Zlote Tarasy and Odraport Center, Kanyon in Istanbul, and Blackpool Master Plan and the award-winning Glasgow Fort in the United Kingdom. Jerde is currently working on projects in Moscow and Marseilles. Other work includes Japan¹s iaward-winning Roppongi Hills, RiverWalk Kitakyushu, and Canal City Hakata; Hangzhou Lakeshore Development in China; Langham Place and The Arcade at Cyberport in Hong Kong; Universal CityWalk in Los Angeles; Bellagio and Fremont Street Experience in Las Vegas; Horton Plaza in San Diego; and the Mall of America in Minneapolis.
