Patrick Kanters, Managing Director Global Real Estate, APG Asset Management, will take over as Chairman at the INREV AGM on April 24 in Vienna. The appointment follows a unanimous nomination at INREV's last Management Board meeting, and continues the tradition of selecting an investor for this role.

Kanters will replace current Chairman, Michael Morgenroth, who will be stepping down following his recent appointment to the board of Austrian real estate fund manager, SIGNA Group.

"I am delighted to welcome Patrick to the role of INREV Chairman. His extensive experience and knowledge will be a great boost to the work we are currently doing, especially in relation to our focus on developing industry standards and benchmarks.

"I would also like to extend my thanks to Michael for his sterling work as Chairman over the past two years – particularly his efforts to help us refine and increase our public affairs activity," said Matthias Thomas, CEO, INREV.

Kanters' experience as a global investor with one of the largest pension fund managers will bring valuable additional insight to INREV, particularly in relation to key strategic priorities, such as embedding transparency; developing global standardization; and promoting inter-regional research programs.

APG is renowned for its innovative thinking on key issues such as sustainability - another area where Kanters will be able to add to INREV's existing knowledge base. Likewise, his experience across a broad spread of real estate investment products will be of great benefit to INREV as it seeks to broaden its reach to cover an ever-widening range of investment vehicles such as joint ventures, club deals and real estate debt funds.

At APG, Kanters is responsible for all global real estate investments in Europe, the Americas and Asia Pacific. Prior to joining AGP in 2005, he spent 11 years with ING Real Estate, most notably as Managing Director of the Investment Management department.

Kanters is a member of the Executive Board of EPRA and sits on the Board of Steen & Strom, the leading Scandinavian shopping center investor. He holds an MSc in Real Estate, Project Management & Housing from the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands and received a post doctorate degree in Real Estate from the University of Amsterdam.

"This is a really exciting opportunity for me. I have been involved with INREV since 2003, shortly after its launch, and believe that the organization plays a vital role in representing the non-listed real estate industry. I am very much looking forward to contributing to the continued success of INREV and doing what I can to help expand its reach to the wider real estate, and general financial and business communities in Europe," commented Kanters.
