Heijmans to redevelop city center of Louvain, Belgium

Heijmans N.V. and KBC Bank have reached agreement with the city of Louvain and the Catholic University of Louvain to redevelop 7 hectares of the inner city. The whole project will take 10 to 15 years. In todayÂ's prices the project amounts to at least € 250 million.

On ‘Hertogendal’, situated in the immediate vicinity of the city center of Louvain, between 650 to 850 housing units will be build over the next few years. It comprises luxurious apartments, student housing and service units for the elderly. Space for retail trade, services, catering trade and culture will also be developed, together with the required infrastructure.

The project will meet todayÂ's requirements in terms of mobility, accessibility and living comfort, without violating the historic radiation of Louvain.

Heijmans was chosen due to its expertise in the area of inner city redevelopment and its integral approach. Construction will start in 2004-2005.
