VGP is continuing to develop VGP Park Leipzig Airport on an area of c. 450,000m². The ground-breaking ceremony took place on Tuesday morning with Jan Van Geet, CEO of VGP, as well as Darius Scheible and Daniel Sigmann, Managing Directors of VGP Germany, together with Hartmut Handschak, District Administrator of the County of Saale, and Torsten Ringling, Mayor of Schkopau.
Completion of the first building in the new development phase with around 23,600m² of lettable space is scheduled for spring 2025. The total of five planned buildings will offer flexible solutions for logistics and semi-industrial companies with up to 210,000m² of lettable space, starting at 1,500m².
VGP Park Leipzig Airport is located just a few kilometres from Leipzig/Halle Airport. It is located on the outskirts of Schkopau in the Ermlitz district on the B6 federal road between Grosskugel and Schkeuditz, directly on the A9 motorway (Munich-Berlin). Its development began in 2021 with the first building being used by Meesenburg and the De Boer Group.
Hartmut Handschak, District Administrator of the County of Saale, said: "We are delighted that a new large business park is now being created in Schkopau on the eastern edge of the Saale district, in the immediate vicinity of the cargo area of Leipzig/Halle Airport. We assume that interesting companies will quickly settle here and create attractive jobs for the entire region. VGP has given assurances that the buildings will meet the highest sustainability standards. During the planning permission process, the company organised the species protection and compensation measures in cooperation with the Saale district authorities and even exceeded them."
Torsten Ringling, Mayor of Schkopau, said: "We want to strengthen our community in the long term with the new business park. We would like to thank VGP for the trusting and sincere cooperation. The company has taken the requirements and wishes of the municipality, the fire brigade and also the affected districts and citizens as well as the neighbouring municipality seriously and always communicated transparently with us.
"With our VGP Parks, we have the opportunity to help strengthen a region and contribute to the future-oriented development of the European economy," said Jan Van Geet, CEO of VGP. "This is demonstrated by our previous project developments such as the VGP Park Munich with renowned companies such as KraussMaffei, BMW and Isar Aerospace as tenants or the recently announced Opel „grEEn-campus“ in Russelsheim. Our aim is to attract appealing and suitable companies - we would also like to realise this here at VGP Park Leipzig Airport."
The new VGP Park Leipzig Airport is also planned to fulfil the defined environmental targets of the EU Taxonomy Regulation. In addition, all buildings will be constructed in accordance with the recognised DGNB Gold sustainability standard. Rooftop PV systems and heat pumps will supply future buildings with sustainable energy. Smart metering systems will also digitally record electricity consumption. They are an important step towards a CO2-neutral building portfolio. E-charging stations will be installed on the site for future employees.
As compensation for the development of the area, ecological compensation areas were created in the form of valuable dry grassland within the municipality of Schkopau. An avenue of trees was also planted along the field path between Ermlitz and Roglitz as well as a strip of bushes along the residential area in Ermlitz.
