Goodman Group has acquired a 43,000m² logistics facility at the L’Isle d’Abeau Logistics Park, near Lyon, France, signing an agreement with Groupe Auchan to lease the entire facility.

The L’Isle d’Abeau Logistics Park is the largest logistics park in France, totalling 2 million m² of warehousing space, making it one of the largest in Europe. The warehouse, the only grade-A logistics building available in the Lyon region, was acquired by Goodman European Partnership, Goodman’s flagship European real estate investment vehicle.

“This new acquisition adds an important new property to our portfolio in France, in a location characterised by high demand for grade-A facilities but limited available supply,” said Emmanuel Van der Stichele, GEP director of investment management. “The acquisition in L’Isle d’Abeau further strengthens our best-in-class logistics real estate portfolio.”

Groupe Auchan’s subsidiary, Organisation Intra Groupe des Achats, is leasing the facility from Goodman, which provides 42,000m² of warehousing space and 1,000m² of office space. Operating in 16 countries, Groupe Auchan is one of the world’s largest retailers, with more than 330,000 employees and a turnover of €63bn.

“Our lease agreement with Groupe Auchan reinforces Goodman’s position as a leading provider of logistics real estate for the retail sector in France,” said Philippe Arfi, Goodman country director for France. “Over the past several years the retail sector has been a major driver of growth for Goodman in France and we will continue to expand our share of space for our customers in this sector.”

On completion of current projects, Goodman will have provided almost 500,000m² of logistics space for the retail and e-commerce sectors in France.
