(EEA) Erick van Egeraat associated architects selected for competition in Denmark (DK)

(EEA) Erick van Egeraat associated architects is selected to participate in a limited international design competition in Copenhagen (DK) organised by the developer Freja ejendomme A/S.

The competition calls for a building for service trades on the site placed between Kalvebod Brygge and Hambrosgade in Copenhagen. The competition is intended to serve as an inspiration for a future yet unknown owner. The aim is to develop a high architectonic and urban quality for the buildings and the urban square and to illustrate how a unique building can be fitted into the site.

The site, formerly owned by the police, is encircled by the new headquarters of Nykredit, Hotel Marriott, Arla´s office, Falckhuset, the police headquarters and car park, Otto Mønsted´s Square and the former Hotel Europa. The local plan for the area was approved at the same time as Nykredit built their new headquarters on the waterfront.

The program facilitates 21.000 sqm service trades around a new square in front of Nykredit´s headquarters. On the northern part of the site 6.000 sqm can be built, on the southern part 15.000 sqm. According to the local plan the open square must be an urban piazza interplaying with Otto Mønsted´s Square.

The participants are: Cubo Arkitekter A/S (DK) Plot A/S (DK) Tegnestuen Vandkunsten A/S (DK) Coop Himmelb(l)au (AT) (EEA) Erick van Egeraat associated architects (NL, UK, HU, CZ) Wingårdhs Arkitektkontor AB (SE) Entries must be submitted by 29 October 2004.
