Economic growth decides timing construction Maasvlakte 2

Future economic growth will be decisive for the construction of Maasvlakte 2. Additional calculations again confirm that the construction should not start too early, but will have to be in line with market demand.

Calculations show that with an annual economic growth figure of 3% or higher, additional land is needed from 2010 onwards. If this figure drops to around 2.5%, it seems better to wait. Also the port?s contribution to the Dutch economy has been scrutinized. Net contribution until 2035 is now calculated at minus EURO 0.25 to 0.50 bln. By postponing land acclamations projects this negative contribution may limited further.
