ECE will develop and construct a total of nine logistics centres all over Germany for the logistics service provider Hermes Germany by 2019.

This major project is part of an extensive future program of the direct-to-consumer logistics provider to adapt its infrastructure to the increase in e-commerce sales and to further accelerate the shipping of packages.

Hermes Germany will invest a total of €300m into new locations in the Berlin metropolitan area, in Bad Rappenau, Mainz, Augsburg, Hamburg, Borgholzhausen, Cologne, Leipzig, and Dresden. In addition, €300m will be spent by ECE for buildings and spaces.

The opening of the first logistics centre in the Baden-Wurttemberg city of Bad Rappenau, which had its construction start this July, is expected for May 2017. The projects in Mainz and Berlin/Brandenburg were launched only recently. All nine logistics centres are expected to be completed in 2019.

ECE developed a customized prototype specifically for this major project. It comprises a 10,000m² logistics facility with an adjacent building with offices, technical facilities, and social areas on 2,900m². A slightly smaller version of the prototype will be constructed at four of the nine locations. It will comprise 8,900m² of logistics space and 2,500m² for the ancillary building.
