Carrefour Polska to open its first franchise hypermarket (PL)

Carrefour Polska has unveiled plans to open its first large-format store run by an independent entrepreneur and franchisee of the chain in Belchatow in September of this year. The move follows the success of the smaller-scale formats such as supermarkets and convenience store. The first Carrefour franchise store was established in Poland in 2007 in the convenience segment. Since then, the chain has opened over 700 stores in this format in Poland, as well as over 30 franchise supermarkets, the first of which was established in 2018.

Marek Lipka, member of the management board and commercial and supply chain director at Carrefour Poland, commented: “We have prepared our Carrefour hypermarket franchise offer for entrepreneurs with their own premises, but also for investors who would like to take over a store already operating in the local market. Both of these models have successfully proven themselves in the supermarket franchise we have been offering since 2018. We have many satisfied partners, including those who run more than one store with us, and in 2022 alone we have already opened a total of 10 Carrefour franchise supermarkets. Importantly when we hand over our own super or hypermarket operating on the market, we have full knowledge of its strengths and weaknesses. We share this data with our partners, and thanks to close cooperation, supplementing the offer with products and services from the local market, and thanks to the commitment of our franchisees, the results of such stores are growing week by week. We are convinced that the hypermarket format operated in the franchise model will achieve similar success in the Polish market"

The new hypermarket in Belchatow will comprise a 3,500m², employ 40 members of staff, and offer over 27,000 products.
