Bridgestone and Panattoni to develop new logistics facility in Burgos (ES)

Bridgestone, a global leader in tyres and sustainable mobility solutions, has signed a partnership agreement with Panattoni for the development and long-term lease of a 43,000m² turnkey building on a nearly 10 hectares site in the Villalonquejar IV industrial complex in one of the leading industrial areas of Burgos. The new property represents an investment of €36m in one of the most important logistics centres of the Bridgestone Group in Europe. It is expected to be operational by the end of 2023 and will create around 50 jobs.

The project, custom-developed for Bridgestone by Panattoni, will be a significant boost to the growth and development of the Burgos plant. The new logistics facilities will become a European distribution centre, allowing the plant to increase its exports, especially to the MEA region (Middle East and Africa).

The building will be in a strategic location, in a perimeter surrounding the main highways of Castilla y León, less than two hours from the port of Bilbao and less than three hours by car from Madrid, offering services to the whole of Europe with important connections to the main ports of the world. In addition, the project will serve both the Original and Replacement equipment markets.

The building will be equipped with state-of-the-art services and comply with the highest sustainability standards in its construction - it will have the BREEAM "Very Good" sustainable construction certificate - and its subsequent operation. This certification involves monitoring the project’s management processes from the beginning, highlighting the importance and well-being of the occupants, and obtaining the highest energy rating, while helping to reduce the building’s operating costs.

It will have a clearance height of 10 metres for storing stock on up to 10 levels, 24 loading and unloading bays for lorries and a functional design to streamline all loading and unloading operations. The complex will also have a car park with more than 50 parking spaces for trucks.

Gustavo Cardozo, Panattoni's General Manager for Spain and Portugal, said that "it is an honour to have the confidence of a multinational company such as Bridgestone. This is a great opportunity for Panattoni, as it allows us to expand our operations in Spain and develop logistics land in Castilla y León for the first time. We are sure that our project will allow us to optimise Bridgestone's operations in our country, as we have already done in other countries, and that it will strengthen the links of collaboration with such an important company."

Jerome Boulet, Logistics VP of Bridgestone EMIA, commented"The Bridgestone plant is a strategic location for the Group and a benchmark in Europe. Our commitment to its growth and development has always been a priority, and this project is another example. With Panattoni, we have a leader in industrial logistics, which ensures that the new facilities meet the high technological and environmental standards that characterise Bridgestone's projects and allow the plant to increase its export capacity."
