Amundi hands the keys to its €24bn private markets platform to its own founding partner

There is a particular kind of leadership transition that signals more than a change of title, it signals continuity of conviction. Amundi has appointed Petra Salesny as Chief Executive Officer of Amundi Alpha Associates, the group's private market multi-management platform overseeing more than €24bn across Private Equity, Private Debt, Infrastructure and Real Estate. Rather than looking outward for new leadership, Amundi has turned to the person who helped build the platform from its earliest days.

Petra steps into the CEO role while continuing as Chief Commercial Officer, a position she has held since Amundi acquired Alpha Associates in 2024. Her trajectory with the firm did not begin at the acquisition, it began at its founding. Petra was a founding partner of Alpha Associates back in 2004, having previously served as Chief Operations Officer at Swiss Life Private Equity Partners before the team spun out to become an independent business in its own right.

For an investor base increasingly focused on manager continuity as a proxy for platform stability, this appointment answers a question many allocators ask quietly but rarely see addressed directly: what happens to a specialist platform's culture and deal discipline after it is absorbed into a much larger asset manager. By promoting from within its founding bench rather than parachuting in external leadership, Amundi is signalling that the underwriting philosophy which built Alpha Associates' track record remains intact, a detail that matters considerably to institutional investors and infrastructure sponsors evaluating where to commit capital across the Private Debt and Real Estate strategies this platform runs.

Petra's earlier career reads as a deliberate build toward cross-border transactional expertise. She served as legal advisor to the private equity team at Bank Vontobel in 2001, and before that worked as an M&A consultant at Helbling across Dusseldorf and Zurich, where between 1999 and 2001 she structured and coordinated cross-border transactions for mid-sized companies, precisely the kind of technical grounding that underpins successful private market fund structuring today.

Her academic credentials reinforce the legal and structuring rigour she brings to the role. Petra is admitted to the New York Bar and holds a Master of Laws from New York University, graduated from the Law School of the University of Vienna, and earned a Ph.D. in law from the University of Basel. This combination has clearly shaped her approach to complex, multi-jurisdictional fund architecture.

With €24bn already under management across four private market asset classes, Petra's appointment as CEO positions Amundi Alpha Associates to press its advantage at a moment when institutional appetite for private market diversification, particularly in infrastructure and real estate, continues to build across Europe.
