MDCTurkmall, the joint venture of AM and Turkmall which specializes in city centre and shopping centre development in Türkiye, has celebrated the official Groundbreaking Event of Forum Bornova in Izmir.
The honoured guests during this groundbreaking event were the Governor of Izmir, Mr Yusuf Ziya Göksu, the Mayor of Izmir, Mr Aziz Kocaoglu, the Mayor of Bornova, Dr. Sirri Aydogan as well as Vice-Rector Professor Dr. Haluk Barlas of the Ege University and representatives of AM and MDCTurkmall.
Introduction of new brands
Forum Bornova, located next to the new highway and near to the Ege University, provides a breath of fresh air to the retail market in Izmir. In addition to many other well-known brand names, IKEA will also open its second store in Türkiye in May 2006 in Forum Bornova.
The second phase of opening is planned for September 2006. This, in addition to eight screens cinema and a food court, will be the opening of a further 130 shops, in many of which new fashion and textile labels will be introduced on the Turkish market. Parking capacity will extend to 3,000 vehicles.
Pleasurable atmosphere
Forum Bornova will be constructed in the styles of both Mediterranean and Aegean architecture. The design, which aims at creating the pleasurable atmosphere of an Aegean village, includes plans for fountains in different styles, ponds, and streets and small squares lined with palm trees and decorated with overhead canopies. A roof terrace will provide an area in which people can eat, sit, relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Forum Bornova, designed by the in house architects T+T Design, Gouda, Netherlands, will employ approximately 1,000 people.
